Primary PSHE - Year 3 - Responsible Citizens Lesson Bundle This 3-week scheme of work is taken from the EC Publishing Primary PSHE scheme. Our curriculum builds progressively, leading to this Year 3 unit on Responsible Citizens. In Reception, pupils learned about classroom rules and the importance of being good listeners. In Year 1, they explored safety rules at home, school, and in their local area. In Year 2, this developed into learning about wants and needs, and how community helpers can offer support when needed. In this Year 3 unit, pupils will deepen their understanding of what it means to be a responsible member of their community. In Year 1, pupils were introduced to the idea of permission, learning what it means and when it is important to ask for it. They also explored the idea that their bodies belong to them and that they have the right to choose whether or not they want to be touched. In Year 2, this developed into learning about safety rules, understanding which parts of their bodies are private, and being introduced to the idea of bullying through the story One by Kathryn Otoshi. In this Year 3 unit, pupils continue to build on their understanding of personal rights and respectful behaviour. They revisit the idea of permission in greater depth and are introduced to the concept of consent, learning that it means willingly agreeing when someone asks. They will explore different types of boundaries that help keep them safe, including physical boundaries, personal boundaries, and friendship boundaries. The unit also deepens their understanding of bullying by exploring teasing, and helping pupils recognise when playful behaviour can cross the line and hurt someone’s feelings. Primary PSHE - Year 4 - Summer Safety and First Aid Bundle This 3-week scheme of work is taken from the EC Publishing Primary PSHE scheme. Our curriculum builds progressively, leading to this Year 4 unit on Summer Safety. This unit deepens pupils’ understanding of how to stay safe in a variety of situations, particularly during the summer months. In Reception and Year 1, we explored sun safety through engaging stories such as George the Sun Safe Superstar. In Years 2 and 3, we developed our understanding of personal safety, focusing on how to stay safe at home and in the local environment. In the Autumn term of Year 4, we built on this learning with a First Aid lesson about allergies and how to respond in an emergency. In this Summer Safety unit, we continue to build our knowledge by learning about the Water Safety Code and revisiting important topics such as sun safety and staying safe around unfamiliar adults. We will also take part in our third First Aid lesson, which focuses on asthma, understanding what it is, how it affects the body, and how to respond if someone has an asthma attack. Our curriculum builds progressively, leading to this Year 4 unit on Digital Boundaries. This unit builds on prior learning, helping students understand how to stay safe online. In Year 1, we explored screen time and safety through stories like Chicken Clicking and Once Upon a Time Online. In Year 2, we learned about SafeSearch, secrets, and protecting personal information. In Year 3, we focused on age-appropriate content and online privacy. In Year 4, we will examine limiting screen time, explore age restrictions, improve online communication skills, and recognize harmful content. Primary PSHE - Year 5 - Safe Relationships Lesson Bundle This 6-week scheme of work is taken from the EC Publishing Primary PSHE scheme. Our progressive curriculum builds sequentially year on year, culminating in this Year 5 unit on Safe Relationships. This unit will deepen students’ understanding of different family structures and what makes relationships positive and loving. Students will explore topics such as recognising safe strangers (both on and offline), understanding personal boundaries, and identifying different forms of abuse, including domestic abuse and FGM.
